Style

I’ve been thinking about writing a style post.

I have always part-liked looking through magazines, but I don’t like it when they tell you that you have to think a certain way, or you have to look a certain way. I like the inspiration but I resent feeling like a sheep. So when I discovered Pinterest, I was ecstatic with the inspiration that I found. Also, I could pick and choose what I found interesting, for the most part Pinterest is just pictures where you can browse and search for what you want to look at. Magazines tend to talk about clothes as ‘fashion’, what everyone else is wearing or what celebrities are wearing. I don’t like that, but I like clothes and accessories.

This is where I had the realisation that I like style and other people’s style but which is often classified as fashion. So this part-like has been rejection of my natural feminine side and not wanting to follow everyone else. I have the same thing with makeup (though this is slightly different) and I guess other feminine things. I tend to have labels for everything and a lot of times, things and people in life don’t fit into boxes, they break the mould.

You just have to be yourself and try not to worry about people judging you, including yourself. Though sadly sometimes I find myself being nosey, looking up celebrity gossip/trash and I end up feeling guilty that I’ve done it. There is more to life than that. I don’t like most of the feminine stereotype of being materialistic and not caring much deeper than that. That is certainly not what I am about!

So anyway, I like seeing blog posts about people’s own clothes and their style, sometimes they blog about their shopping haul or sometimes people pick out outfits and new looks with pre-existing clothes. Or some people pick outfits from various clothes they’ve seen on the internet. It can then extend into accessories, nails and makeup. I also quite like looking back on ‘fashion’ for the previous few years.

I think you should always find what suits you. I’m referring to colours, styles, fit of clothes etc. I’m not particularly bothered by designers or brands, that doesn’t interest me. As long as it looks nice.

Now that it’s the summer, I like being able to wear tops and skirts, shorts and dresses! I have become a lot more feminine through my 20s.

I have also had an interest in makeup and the creativity of it, though I usually don’t wear any and I have a funny relationship to it. So I will probably write a blog post about it soon, as I have been searching for looks that suit me.

Country Music

The latest updates from me are: my new interest in Country music and a change in my hair style. I can’t remember where I saw it, but something reminded me of a singer I used to listen to in a band called Hey Monday. Pete Wentz posted about Cassadee Pope winning on The Voice a few years back too. Anyway, she has now got a solo career in Country music and basically all of her songs are great.

This led me on to listen to other country singers, obviously one of my favourite music artists ever is Taylor Swift whose roots are in country music so I guess it was natural for me to research into the genre more. The other musicians I really like are Carrie Underwood and Miranda Lambert. Some of their songs are really country sounding, but mostly they’re slightly more acoustic than pop music.

Now my life is going really well, I’m happy and in love; I have started to get interested in more easy listening music whereby the lyrics are more relatable. I used to like hip hop and cool pop with rude and horrible lyrics; they don’t appeal so much to me anymore and I’m seriously considering chucking out a couple of Chris Brown CDs plus Rihanna and perhaps one or two others. I don’t want to sound stuck up in any way though.

I’d like the genre a lot more if they chose to rap or sing about different and nicer subjects. I know some rappers come from a rough and edgy lifestyle/reality but that’s not the world that I live in and hope to never live in a world like that. I do sympathise with them and it does highlight some of the issues here on earth but I think it is now overused and over told. That could equally be said about love songs for just about every genre but I think everyone experiences those things and people will always want to sing about love.

I guess I can relate to female singers more overall. I still like Christina Aguilera’s album Stripped and Back to Basics; Avril Lavigne, and Paramore. Although two artists with male lyricists are in my all time favourites: Fall Out Boy and Michael Jackson.

Another update is that over Spring I watched Ballykissangel. I may write a separate post about the show. The end of season three left me heartbroken, I won’t say much more than that because of spoilers. I loved the first three seasons, but from there the show was gradually worse in my opinion.

I think that’s enough blogging for one night.

MySpace

I miss MySpace. Like I can really feel nostalgic sometimes that it is no longer the same as it was when I was a teenager. I think it was one of the things that helped me find who I was and express my creativity. I’m not really sure why they have taken away the personalisation element to it (surely it’s just like Facebook now?), or why people ventured away from it.

I think people who liked using MySpace were really the future bloggers, as blogging provides some customisation. Though not quite to the extent of premade questionnaires that a lot of us liked completing, the personal information or the gadgets (I had a cute character). It was nosey but I enjoyed looking on a guy’s profile to see if they considered having children; the main answer I saw was ‘someday’. Then there was the music and the profile picture and the top friends, these are things that are missing from a blog but I wouldn’t say it would be good to add them because it’s just not a blog thing to do if that makes sense. I guess you still have the background, profile picture and content to customise in a blog. To get round the other things I mentioned, you could describe and add a link to your current favourite music, you could write a post answering questions to a questionnaire. You can still make friends and comment on another’s blog. Unless your closest friends have a blog, you can’t list them as your favourite people on blogs you follow. Basically it’s not quite a personalised page of who you are and what you like in summary.

Maybe for some of us, it would have been nice to keep the profile the same as a memoir of the teenage years. Except they have removed the majority of the content for some reason.. I did a little research online and saw someone post moaning that there wasn’t even a warning of the action to remove the content. If that was indeed the case, I agree with them and think that it was unfair (my account is registered to an email account I don’t use anymore, and so I don’t see its inbox anymore).
I wonder if they have saved all the settings and can reinstate them in the future?

Happy Spring!

Good evening ramble..

Did anyone ever listen to My American Heart? They have a song called Tired and Uninspired and that’s how I am feeling right now. In terms of studying anyway. I submitted an assignment just after midnight last night and I think I ‘m probably decompressing. Plus the fact I had a more active task today and not just sitting in front of an iPad reading and taking notes of an electronic textbook. Don’t get me wrong, I love studying chemistry but I need a break every now and then. The theory can get a bit much, I often find I need to be in the mood for it. Though funny enough when it comes to the assignments I realise I do actually like the subject. Science can be so interesting huh. So this is just a ramble about how I want to write right now rather than do an assignment, do some sums or have a conversation in a forum about a group activity my fellow students and I have completed. Never mind the course is almost over now after an exam in June. Inspiration for writing has come from looking at other blogs too. I find creative moods like this, you tend to need to go with the flow.

Another thing I wanted to say is that I have recently got into nutrition. I have always had a yo-yo interest in it (usually faltering when cakes or biscuits were around..), but I have made an attempt to cut down on bad foods and start making healthy but tasty snacks or meals! This evening for dessert I had a banana topped with almond butter, a tbsp of Greek yoghurt, raspberries and maple syrup. Yummy!

March 2016 Updates

Hello, it’s a nice sunny day here, mostly! When I was walking during lunch time the sun was out and it was rather warm walking around in it. Not hot enough to stay out without a coat, but the almost spring cheerful warmth.

I’m so looking forward to spring this year. Although I love all the seasons and the change with them, since December when the temperature dropped to winter standard, I haven’t liked it! It’s not like I’m one of those people who have winter blues, I find England rather pretty in winter and I have always liked rainy days inside, including gloomy grey skies. Not that it’s anything to do with it but I used to be an Overcast Kid too, this is Fall Out Boy’s fan club. You know my favourite band…

I’m sitting here with a slice of Victoria sponge cake (not mine) and a cup of Tetley’s tea. The latter are a brand that I’m really enjoying at the moment. In the past when it came to tea I wasn’t really fussy as to the brand, but I have found that as I’ve got older and have worked for a couple of companies, I can tell the difference between brands of tea. At home we have weak teas generally, Sainsbury’s Own or Red Label, I think

they’re weak anyway. I also have tried Tetley’s Redbush with vanilla, mostly because I wanted to avoid caffeine, as well as avoiding black tea for a while (there are also health benefits with redbush tea, but I admit this wasn’t the main reason for buying). I love vanilla, so I guessed that I would enjoy the flavour in tea, I was right. However, I read a review on amazon about Tetley’s Redbush Vanilla tea, they stated that not all the ingredients on the packet are fully explained. A bit wary I decided to try another brand, to be honest I don’t really like their tea. So I have switched back. Enough ramblings on about tea!

I should probably say that I have been spoilt recently with the sun, as I travelled to Australia in February; which is their summer time. We went out into the Outback semi desert and oh my the heat! Most people would shy away from the heat but being the cold morsel that I am I actually loved it! I was more concerned about the creepy crawlies crawling around! Though the most dangerous spider there funny enough is in the woodland area around Sydney, go figure. I have been wondering whether I should post on the internet anywhere about my adventures as I don’t want to boast or to seem like I am showing off. I appreciate that I have been lucky and I also want to share parts of my life.

It has been such a long time since I have written a blog post, sorry about that, I actually wrote a Christmas one in December and didn’t get round to posting it. I guess I’ll save it for next year. I still have a long list of subjects to talk about, like I mentioned in a post last year. I have some new interests which is always nice. Life is about transformation in my opinion. There are also areas of my life that I’m neglecting or am not doing so much anymore, the main ones being gaming and reading.
Have fun.
