I’ve been thinking about writing a style post.
I have always part-liked looking through magazines, but I don’t like it when they tell you that you have to think a certain way, or you have to look a certain way. I like the inspiration but I resent feeling like a sheep. So when I discovered Pinterest, I was ecstatic with the inspiration that I found. Also, I could pick and choose what I found interesting, for the most part Pinterest is just pictures where you can browse and search for what you want to look at. Magazines tend to talk about clothes as ‘fashion’, what everyone else is wearing or what celebrities are wearing. I don’t like that, but I like clothes and accessories.
This is where I had the realisation that I like style and other people’s style but which is often classified as fashion. So this part-like has been rejection of my natural feminine side and not wanting to follow everyone else. I have the same thing with makeup (though this is slightly different) and I guess other feminine things. I tend to have labels for everything and a lot of times, things and people in life don’t fit into boxes, they break the mould.
You just have to be yourself and try not to worry about people judging you, including yourself. Though sadly sometimes I find myself being nosey, looking up celebrity gossip/trash and I end up feeling guilty that I’ve done it. There is more to life than that. I don’t like most of the feminine stereotype of being materialistic and not caring much deeper than that. That is certainly not what I am about!
So anyway, I like seeing blog posts about people’s own clothes and their style, sometimes they blog about their shopping haul or sometimes people pick out outfits and new looks with pre-existing clothes. Or some people pick outfits from various clothes they’ve seen on the internet. It can then extend into accessories, nails and makeup. I also quite like looking back on ‘fashion’ for the previous few years.
I think you should always find what suits you. I’m referring to colours, styles, fit of clothes etc. I’m not particularly bothered by designers or brands, that doesn’t interest me. As long as it looks nice.
Now that it’s the summer, I like being able to wear tops and skirts, shorts and dresses! I have become a lot more feminine through my 20s.
I have also had an interest in makeup and the creativity of it, though I usually don’t wear any and I have a funny relationship to it. So I will probably write a blog post about it soon, as I have been searching for looks that suit me.
Signing out for now x
